The Goal

Design a visual brand guide for Findlay-Hancock County Public Library.

My Role

Graphic Designer

Project Duration

2 weeks

Background

This project was carried out in collaboration with Findlay-Hancock County Public Library and carried out remotely. Findlay-Hancock County Public Library wanted to have a visual branding guide where all of its employees could use as a reference when creating print or digital materials.

Constraints

Choose fonts that can be found on Canva or Microsoft Word.

Responsibilities

  • Discuss the style guides and format

  • Gather digital assets

  • Provide 3 different design drafts

  • Iterate the designs

Initial Design

The first step was to choose a font that could be found on Canva or Microsoft. I chose Garamond and Barlow because the serif and sans-serif font would create a good contrast together and Barlow would still be easily legible when reading on the internet.

The secondary brand colors were chosen based off of the colors on Findlay-Hancock County Public Library’s secondary logo. After the font and colors were decided, I created an 8.5x11” draft so the format wouldn’t be affected when printed.

Edits and Outcome

The main feedback was:

  1. Change Barlow to Ariel because it was easily accessible on Microsoft Word.

  2. Switch out the pink secondary color with a blue instead.

  3. Make the format of the guide editable so the library could make any edits in the future.

Once the first draft was complete, it was sent to Findlay-Hancock County Public Library where they provided feedback on the design.

After the font and color was changed in the file, I redid the design on Google Slides so it could be edited when exported as a PowerPoint. This led to a change in the design layout due to the new dimensions and number of font weights because of what was available on Google Slides. This led to the final visual branding guide design.
